1918: The German Great Retreat Begins

A century ago the German Army began to retreat along the Western Front, back to the Hindenburg Line, constructed in 1917, from which they had begun their Spring Offensive in March, 1918.  The Germans simply could not cope with the Allied strategy of multiple simultaneous small offensives which gained ground and subjected the German Army to the death of a thousand cuts.  Now the Allies would face the challenge of pushing the Germans out of heavily fortified positions which they had held since 1914.  The easy days of the Allied Hundred Day Offensive were coming to an end.
