Colonel Harlan Sanders on What’s My Line

A fascinating episode of What’s My Line from December 1963 featuring Colonel Harlan Sanders.  Sanders is now so associated with Kentucky Fried Chicken that it is difficult to imagine a time when he could appear on  a game show and not be recognized.  Sanders had founded Kentucky Fried Chicken in 1952 and by the time that he appeared on the show there were already 600 franchises.  In 1964 he would sell his interest in Kentucky Fried Chicken for two million dollars.   The show is a testament as to how little publicity a CEO of a large business, even one with such a flamboyant personae as the Colonel, a purely honorary title conferred upon him by the governor of Kentucky, could have in that era.
