Election Day

A weapon that comes down as still
As snow-flakes fall upon the sod;
But executes a freeman’s will
As lightning does the will of God;
And from its force, nor doors nor looks
Can shield you;—’t is the ballot-box.

John Pierpont from his poem A Word From A Petitioner

Today is election day and I will be going out to vote.  The franchise is a very precious right and purchased at a very high price and I remember that when I go into the voting booth.

It is easy to become cynical about the political process, but I tend to be cynical about cynicism.
