James Buchanan-First Presidential Memoir


James Buchanan normally heads most lists of worst presidents.  150 years ago his administration was in its dying days.  However, history would hear from Buchanan one last time.  In 1866 his memoir of his administration, the first time a president wrote a book on his term in office, was published.  The Administration on the Eve of the Rebellion is an exercise in blame shifting for the secession crisis and the Civil War as Buchanan blamed everyone else.
