La Marseillaise

Something for the weekend.  La Marseillaise was a popular melody in America from the French Revolution through the Civil War.  France exercised a fascination on America throughout this period, with the French Revolution and Napoleon having both fierce advocates and detractors in this country.  France set the fashion for all things military until the Franco-Prussian war, from small things, think the Kepi caps worn by Union and Confederate soldiers in our Civil War, to the Napoleonic tactics and strategy that dominated the era.  In more ways than one France was calling the tune throughout this time period in Europe and, to a lesser extent, in America.
