Missouri has had a history of being a strong bellwether in presidential elections. Since 1904 Missouri has gone for the winner except for 1956 and 2008. In the Nineteenth Century Missouri voted for the Republican in 1864 and 1868 and then Democrat for the remainder of that century. Nevada is the top current bellwether state, having gone for the winner in every Presidential contest since 1912, with the exception of 1976.
